Nokia is pretty much upfront with the media when it comes to their long term plans with their handsets and technologies, and knowing what the Finnish phone maker is up to is certainly quite interesting. Here’s a quick heads up of everything that they have confirmed so far.
First up, the first major release in 2011 would be the Nokia E7, scheduled in Q2. This is also indirectly stating that the device has been delayed. Originally, we were all expecting that the Symbian^3 powered smart phone would be readily available early next year.
But in the end, some undisclosed reasons pushed the handset back. Nokia has been beset by various delays with their devices so much that poking fun at it is starting to get old. We are already tired of seeing how the Nokia N8 took almost forever to launch this year, and it is practically a well-accepted fact that the MeeGo powered N9 is indefinitely postponed –missing the E7’s scheduled launch is certainly not good for Nokia’s track record.
While the company may not be so keen on keeping dates, they are pretty much on top of things when it comes to the latest technology. Take near field communications technology for example, while the innovation has yet to be implemented in real life, Google and Apple are both confirmed to be investing in the technology –in the meanwhile, Nokia has already installed the hardware on some of their phones.
The Finnish electronics marvel will also be launching a touch screen tablet next year (possibly MeeGo based) as well as a new smart phone that comes equipped with proper optical zoom technology.
On a sad note, it has also been confirmed that Nokia has been downsizing as of late, streamlining their production processes and also, planning on cutting off some 800 jobs as the company faces one of its toughest phases in the industry.
